How to connect Vultr cloud compute instance with ServerAvatar

Vultr is one of the best VPS/VM providers in the world when it comes to performance. The performance and support provided by Vultr is better than any VPS companies available in the market right now.

We use Vultr for our test instances and load testing and also for all other heavy tasks that require too much of I/O. Vultr instances out perform all the other VPS providers when it comes to I/O.

ServerAvatar supports Vultr cloud compute instances too! By cloud compute instance, I mean Vultr instances or Vultr servers. So, Let’s get started with the actual tutorial.

In this tutorial, I will create a brand new Vultr server and will connect it with my ServerAvatar account. I will also include screenshots to avoid confusions. So, let’s get started with creating a Vultr cloud compute instance first. If you already have Vultr cloud compute instance, you can skip the first step.

Create Vultr Cloud Compute Instance

Considering you are already logged into your Vultr account, You will see a Dark blue “+” button on the upper-left side of your screen. Click on the button to navigate to the page on which you can create an instance.

On the Instance creation page, you will find a bunch of options to select from. It will basically ask you to select the location of your instance, an operating system of your instance, size of your instance, Hostname of your instance and some other options that are optional.

The first option is to select the location of your Cloud compute instance. There are tens of locations to select from. You can select the one that is closest to the location from which you get or expect to get the majority of your traffic.

Once you’ve selected the location, Scroll down and select the operating system of your instance. ServerAvatar supports Ubuntu 18.04 x64 and Ubuntu 16.04 x64. So, you can select any one of those two operating systems.

In the third option, you have to select the size of your server. You can select the size of the server based on the traffic you are already getting. If you are just getting started, Select $5/month plan because you can upgrade quickly with Vultr as per your requirements.

Now, you will get a bunch of additional options. These options are optional so you can select the one you want. We recommend you to select the backup option because backups are important. Backups will cost you 20% of your instance price.

One more option is to select the startup script. Startup scripts are executed after the instance is booted for the first time. It’s optional and not required. So, If you don’t understand what’s are the startup scripts, Please don’t select anything.

Once you’ve cleared 4th and 5th option, You will be asked to select SSH keys and hostname. If you want to add SSH key, you can select the SSH key by clicking on “Add new”.

The last option is to select the hostname of your server. You can enter anything there for identification if you don’t know what exactly is a hostname.

Once you are done with the steps, Click on “Deploy now” Button on the bottom-right corner of the page and your Vultr cloud compute instance will be ready in few minutes!

Connect Vultr instance with ServerAvatar Account

Once your Vultr compute instance is ready, Click on the instance to navigate to Vultr cloud compute instance information page so that you can get information required to connect your Server with ServerAvatar.

Once you have identified the information required to connect your Server with ServerAvatar. Log in to your ServerAvatar account and click on the Add dropdown given on the top-right corner of your dashboard and select Server from the available options.

Here you will see a few fields to enter the server information. It will ask you for Name (Only for Identification), IP Address and Root password of your server. Enter the required information and click on the Add Server button.

You can select the web server as per your choice. You can either select Apache or Nginx as a web server. Both the web servers will work with php-fpm.

Now, ServerAvatar will check if your server can be successfully configured or not. If your server is perfect for configuration, you will see a information message stating that inspection completed and you will see a progress bar instead of a disabled “please wait…” button.

Once the configuration is complete, you will be redirected to server panel from which you can manage your server. The Server Panel will look like the following image if you are on the pro plan.

So, this is how you can connect your Vultr cloud compute instance with your ServerAvatar account. Next, you might want to create an application on your server. You can refer to the following guides in that case.

If you have any issues connecting your Vultr cloud compute instance with your ServerAvatar account, Please let us know in the comment section or in a support ticket. We will respond with solution as soon as possible.
